Pricing & Estimates

How is the price calculated?

The same way we price in production, materials plus build time for your exact dimensions, nothing generic. We confirm it against your dimensions and photos before building.

Can the price change after I book?

Only if the specs change. Different dimensions, added depth for frames or padding, multiple works combined, or difficult site access. Our crate fabrication technician confirms everything with you by email before anything is built.

Is there a rush option?

Yes! Same-day fabrication is available for a rush fee. Mention your deadline when you book.

Why does the crate cost more than the artwork’s dimensions suggest?

The crate is built larger than the object(s) — walls, foam lining, framing, and skids add to every side — and priced on the finished exterior. The estimate shows the exterior size so there are no surprises at the door or elevator.

Crates

What’s included in a standard crate?

½″ plywood walls and lid on a ¾″ base, 1×4 reinforced framing, custom foam blocking so the work never touches the walls, and 2×4 skids for forklift and pallet-jack handling. The lid is screwed, not nailed — it opens and closes for reuse.

Can I reuse the crate?

Yes. Screwed closure and solid construction mean UNION crates are made for repeat trips and storage.

What’s the difference between Standard and Museum Grade?

Museum Grade is built heavier for high-value work and repeated handling — reinforced construction throughout. If the work is fragile, valuable, or traveling far, choose Museum Grade.

Can several works share one crate?

Yes! It’s usually cheaper than separate crates. Add photos and a note; we’ll size a combined crate correctly and update your pricing.

How big can you build?

Oversized is our normal — we crate objects well beyond standard freight sizes. Very large or complex builds may add a day or two.

Travel Frames (T-frames)

What’s a travel frame?

A lighter, poly-wrapped open frame built from wood, plywood and lined with foam.

What would I use a travel frame for?

Travel frames are designed to transport and store objects like paintings, framed works, mirrors, and other objects that require additional support during transit.

Can a travel frame pack into a crate?

Yes — we often fabricate a travel frame for objects whose surface can’t be touched. The travel frame is then placed inside a crate for shipping, providing a safe environment for the object in transit.

Can I ship my travel frame?

Yes — if you plan to move locally or by art shuttle, a travel frame is an excellent solution that protects your objects without the weight and cost of a full crate.

Plinths & Pedestals

What are your plinths made of?

Painted MDF, built hollow with five finished sides. We fabricate all shapes and sizes, and custom requests are welcome.

Can I choose the finish?

Yes! We can color match to any color you prefer. Just let us know.

Are they strong enough for heavy sculpture?

Built for gallery and fair display. For unusually heavy works, tell us the weight and we’ll reinforce accordingly.

Packing, Delivery & Pick-Up

What does on-site packing include?

A two-person UNION crew packs the object at your location utilizing our soft packing supplies to ensure the object is safe to be packed into a crate. For travel frames, our crew will install the work inside the frame and securely wrap the travel frame with poly to keep dust out. Slipcases are packed with glassine, poly wrap, and corrugated sheets. Shadow boxes are packed with corrugated sheets, foam blocks, and poly wrap. Labor and materials are both in the price shown.

Where do you deliver?

Miami-Dade, Broward up to Boca Raton, and Palm Beach up to Hobe Sound. Flat fee by zone, once per order. Outside that, simply reach out to our team for a shipping and delivery quote.

Can I pick up instead?

Yes! Pick up at our Miami facility. A per-order warehouse release fee applies (shown in your estimate).

What’s NOT Included

Is shipping included?

No, shipping is not included. If artwork needs to be collected and shipped, request it when you book. Global shipping, packing, installation, and international customs are core UNION services and we’ll quote them separately.

Is insurance included?

The estimate covers fabrication only. Insurance for transit and handling is arranged separately. Ask when you book.

Do you install or store?

Yes! Installation, storage, staging, and worldwide shipping are all UNION services; mention what you need when you book and one specialist coordinates all of it.

Booking

What happens after I submit?

A UNION technician reviews your dimensions and photos and replies the same day to confirm the spec and firm price. Nothing is built or charged until you’ve confirmed.

Do I have to talk to someone on the phone?

No. Everything can be handled by email. Call us if you’d rather talk it through.
